Shaun White Steps Up Again at Winter X

Shaun White closed out Winter X Games 13 Sunday by capturing his second-straight gold medal in the Men's SuperPipe -- the first person ever to accomplish the feat.

The winning run came on White's last as then-frontrunner Kevin Pearce watched. Pearce ended up in second with a 90.66 while Antti Autti was third with an 87.33.

The win gave White his ninth career Winter X Games gold medal, a record.

WRC's Colin McRae Killed in Helicopter Crash

The international motorsports world has been rocked by the death of one its most popular stars.

Colin McRae, the 1995 World Rally Championship Driver of the Year, is reported dead after helicopter owned by the racer crashed within a mile of his home, according to Scotsman.com.
The Twin Squirrel helicopter registered to the former world champion rally driver came down shortly after 4pm yesterday about 200 yards from his 17th-century mansion.

Police sources said the blue helicopter used by the 39-year-old multi-millionaire had exploded in a "fireball".

Eyewitness David Lowry, who lives nearby, said he watched as the helicopter plunged into a valley.

As many as four people are thought to have died in the crash. Jean-Eric Freudiger, McRae's agent, confirmed McRae had been piloting the helicopter.
Aside from McRae, one victim rumored dead in the incident was McRae's son. The driver was married to wife Allison and together they had two children, Jimmy and Hollie.

McRae likely gained his most fame in the United States after an incident in the 2006 Summer X-games. McRae lost the inaugural rally event in the Games after flipping his car (about 2:18) with just two corners to go. He would also roll his car again in the 2007 event.

Rumors had briefly circulated that McRae could run a few NASCAR events but no specific announcement was ever made. Read more about McRae's impressive career on his Wikipedia page.

R.I.P. Mr. McRae.

Jake Brown X-Games Crash on Larry King

Somehow I don't think the demographic that ESPN tries to reach with the X-Games is very similar to the demographic that CNN gets with Larry King Live. But Jake Brown, the guy who had the insane skateboard crash in the X-Games, did his best to explain skateboarding to King:

King seemed surprised to learn that you can actually make a living from skateboarding, and he seemed even more surprised to learn that Brown plans to be back, as King said, "on skates" in two to four weeks.

X-Games: Jeremy Lusk Crash

Here is Jeremy Lusk's crash during the Moto X freestyle, as we see yet again that X-Games crashes are reaching a big audience on YouTube:

The Los Angeles Times described Lusk's crash about right: landing on his front tire, going over the bars and then getting squashed by his Yamaha.

X-Games: Scott Murray Motorcycle Back Flip

The X-Games are taking over YouTube. About a quarter of the Top 100 most viewed videos on YouTube today are related to ESPN's X-Games. Most of them are crashes, like this one:

That's Scott Murray coming up short on a motorcycle double back flip.

X-Games: Todd Potter Motorcycle Backflip

Say this for ESPN's X-Games: They're made for YouTube. Even if you don't want to sit down and watch it for a few hours, the highlights are worth watching -- like this one:

That was Todd Potter with the "kiss of death" motorcycle backflip. He took the bronze.
