Studs and Duds: Cars-On Target

Each week in the NFL, there are players that impress and players that distress. One week a certain quarterback might toss four touchdowns and run around pointing skyward, while the next he's laying on his back, holding his facemask as the other team returns one of his three interceptions for the game-winning score. With that in mind, here's Studs and Duds.

Studs

Carson Palmer, QB Cincinnati (20-24, 233 yards, 5 TDs) -- There was an interesting moment during "Hard Knocks" on HBO this year when Palmer was giving his center, Kyle Cook, a little bit of grief about the smell that Carson had on his hand after taking snaps. It was essentially boys being boys, but Palmer played it well and had some fun at the expense of Cook.

Biased Banter: Steelers vs. Bears

Adam Gretz is a Steelers fan. Matt Snyder is a Bears fan. With Pittsburgh and Chicago facing each other on Sunday they decided to mock each other over e-mail.

NFL Twitter Mailbag: Week 1 Questions on Bears, Favre, Brady, Gruden

NFL Twitter nation had plenty to say on Week 1 of the NFL season, with the main topic of conversation being the Chicago Bears, who struggled through questionable decisions by Lovie Smith and questionable passes by Jay Cutler, and also lost Brian Urlacher for the season.

We also have comments about Brett Favre, Jon Gruden and Tom Brady in our NFL Twitter mailbag, which is below.

Bears Begin Dealing With 'Devastating' Injury to Defensive Leader

Brian UrlacherBrian Urlacher stood near midfield on a warm evening last month during Bears training camp in Bourbonnais, Ill. He said that, come what may, the Bears defense will always be easily identified. He said it like he meant it, which is certainly Urlacher's way

"We're never going to change,'' Urlacher said. "I mean, this is how we play and what we do. We're physical. We're hungry. We get as excited about defending the run as we do the pass. And we've always got a history to live up to around here.''

Well, the spirit may be willing but the tools are now certainly weaker for this Bears defense
Fantasy Football Impact: Finding Replacement for Urlacher

Cutler's Picks, Urlacher's Injury Cause Overreactions in Chicago

Jay Cutler Brian UrlacherOn the surface, the past 24 hours have been really bad for Bears fans. After months of excitement, the Bears lost a heart-breaking season opener to their hated division rivals, the Green Bay Packers. To make matters worse, strong-armed Jay Cutler threw four interceptions and defensive captain Brian Urlacher has already been lost for the season. That wasn't all that was bad. The offensive line couldn't run block, receivers appeared to have very little rapport with Cutler and that fake punt call -- teamed with a ridiculously bad challenge by Lovie Smith -- was an unmitigated debacle.

Good thing the season doesn't end after one week.

Damage Control: Urlacher's Season Over

Brian UrlacherDid the injury bug hit your fantasy football team like it was a car windshield moving at 100 MPH? If so, it may be time to do some Damage Control.

Quarterback

Donovan McNabb, Eagles - McNabb fractured a rib in Sunday's game against the Panthers and was originally thought to surely miss a game, maybe two. It appears now that McNabb can do no more damage to the rib by playing. Nobody is sure of his status for Week 2, but, if he can withstand the pain you'd better believe that he'll give it a try. You can't cut McNabb. If he decides that he cannot play, you're just going to have to run with your QB2 for the time being.

Bears' Brian Urlacher Out for Season

Brian UrlacherChicago Bears Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Urlacher is likely out for the season after suffering a dislocated right wrist during the first quarter of Sunday night's Week 1 loss to the Green Bay Packers, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

The Tribune reports:
When asked about his status Monday, Urlacher said in a text message that his "season is over."

He was scheduled to undergo surgery Monday morning upon the team's arrival back in Chicago from Green Bay. A dislocated bone had to be surgerically put back in.

Vikings' Bobby Wade to Urlacher: I Should Have Kept My Mouth Shut

Bobby WadeMANKATO, Minn. -- Vikings wide receiver Bobby Wade said Friday he has made peace with former Chicago Bears teammate Brian Urlacher after getting a little too chatty on a local radio show.

Wade, as you may have heard, revealed Wednesday during an interview with Minneapolis station KFAN-AM that Urlacher used an a filthy word in describing Jay Cutler as, well, less than manly during a recent weekend trip to Sin City.

Now that Urlacher and Cutler, Chicago's new starting quarterback, have kissed and made up at Bears' training camp in Bourbonnais, Ill., does Wade regret spilling the beans publicly about what the guys said in Las Vegas?
