NHL Roundtable: Brashear's Suspension

The length of Donald Brashear's suspension -- six games total, including five for a hit on Blair Betts in Game 6 of their opening round series Sunday that resulted in a broken orbital bone -- has seemingly caught league observers by surprise. As a result, the ban has been on the tongues of hockey fans everywhere since the decision was handed down Monday afternoon, and FanHouse is no exception. After the jump, our NHL writers discuss the reasoning and justification for the suspension.

Don Cherry Not a Fan of Ovechkin

Lately, it's become all the rage for fans and players around the NHL to pile on Penguins captain Sidney Crosby. The latest player to jump on the pile was Atlanta Thrashers forward Ilya Kovalchuk, who responded to Crosby's criticism of Alex Ovechkin for his often times over-the-top goal celebrations.

On Saturday night, legendary Canadian hockey analyst Don Cherry offered up his opinion on Ovechkin, and, well, if you're familiar with Cherry, it shouldn't be much of a shock. Video after the jump.

Olde Time Hockey Fight of the Day: Caps vs. Bruins

I'm not finding a whole lot of fight video in my late night wanderings, so I thought I'd share some footage from the past, in this case a classic brawl between the Boston Bruins and the Washington Capitals from November 21, 1998:

This game is so popular, that NESN regularly replays it as part of its "Bruins Classics" program. Because after all, reliving the past is more profitable than actually trying to win in the present. Horribly unfair, I know, but it wouldn't be the NHL Fanhouse if it wasn't!

Thanks to D.C. Sports Chick for the pointer.
