Bleacher Bums: Yankee Fans Will Sing to You of Love

Bleacher Bums is MLB FanHouse's look at those oh so fun fan-to-fan adventures.

I'll be perfectly honest: I've never been to Yankee Stadium. I have, on the other hand, been to plenty of Cubs games at Wrigley Field, and I can attest that opposing team's fans usually don't get too bad of a verbal beating. Maybe a little ribbing, some boos, etc, but nothing on the level of the above, wherein a young Red Sox fan gets a pretty brutal serenade in the bleachers at Yankee Stadium.

Warning: This is a bit foul, and contains not-so-subtle references to the young Red Sox fan's sexuality. Probably not for virgin ears, or for those whose bosses wouldn't appreciate loud, drunk Yankees fans emanating from your workspace. Be forewarned.

Manny Acta to Make Peace With Hecklers

Nationals fans Matt Krimm and Dave Hammerly never thought that there would be consequences for their incessant heckling of those anonymous third base coaches who just hope to go through a game without anybody knowing who they are. But those two Nationals fans picked on the wrong guy when they picked on Mets coach Manny Acta during the last series of the 2006 season ... because now, he manages their team. Now don't they feel bad, even a little bit?
"We went after Manny hard because it was the Mets, and you have to hate the Mets," Krimm said. "At one point, I yelled at Manny in Spanish. We saw that his team had lost in the Dominican Winter League playoffs once, so we were giving him a hard time about that. There were about two half innings I was yelling in Spanish, and one time he called me down to the wall and said, 'What did you say?' He laughed and said 'I don't know where you get this stuff.' We were doing it all in fun.
So now that Acta manages the Nats, would he remember those bilingual hecklers? Find out after the jump.

Bristol Motor Speedway: The Fans Are Ready To Go Racin'

There is no question that Bristol Motor Speedway is worthy of two races on the NASCAR circuit.

Sunday's Food City 500 will be the track's 50th consecutive Cup series sell-out.

Race fans are already on site staking their claim for next week's race.

Meet Tony Bishop
He and his wife were married at the racetrack and have camped near the track for the past 16 years. Even though "their spot" has been flooded out more than once, he says the danger is part of the fun:

"My cooler doubles as a flotation device," he joked. "As long as I keep my head above water and save the beer I'm OK."

Look no further for the sport's most devoted fans.

No Real Fans Allowed: Tailgating Banned at Super Bowl

If you didn't already realize that the NFL shuns the real fans at the Super Bowl in favor of the corporate suits, here's all you need to know: Tailgating is banned at Dolphin Stadium.

"The parking lot and traffic flow will look a lot different than it will during normal season games," [NFL spokesman Brian] McCarthy said. "We're going to have a security perimeter so we can screen people coming in." Among the items banned: containers of any type, coolers of any size, backpacks, bottles, banners, noisemakers and horns.

"We'll have security people out in the parking lots," McCarthy said. "If they see something that's obtrusive to other fans, they'll say you should put that back in your truck."

To an extent, I can understand this -- the Super Bowl is a different event and different security rules make sense. But it really grinds my gears that the NFL makes all its money all year off the kinds of people who show up at games early with brats and beer, and then in the biggest game of the year, it turns its back on those people.

Colts' Fans Rank 2nd In Local TV Ratings

According to a post made on the IndyStar.com's official website, the Indianapolis area ranked 2nd in local team TV ratings during week 1 of the NFL season. Here are the top 5 teams...
1. Pittsburgh Dolphins-Steelers 50.5
2. Indianapolis Colts-Giants 43.3
3. Milwaukee Bears-Packers 39.1
4. Buffalo Bills-Patriots 37.9
5. Dallas-Fort Worth Cowboys-Jaguars 32.2
So what does this all mean? I'm no expert on TV ratings, but to the best of my knowledge I believe it means that 43.3% of all TV sets in the Indianapolis area were tuned into the Colts game during week 1. The Indianapolis area record is a rating of 49.4 which was during last years playoff game versus the Steelers. Which would mean 49.4 percent of the people in Indianapolis were buying a TV the next morning, as the one they were viewing that game on landed in the street when the kick sailed wide right.

I'm shocked to see the numbers this high. I know that Colts fans are dedicated, but I didn't think we'd rank #2. Impressive.
