Strikeforce Middleweight Title Fight Breakdown: Jason Miller vs. Jake Shields

Jake ShieldsWhen Jason "Mayhem" Miller and Jake Shields step into the cage on Saturday, it will match up one of MMA's best known personalities with one of its most underrated fighters.

For all his verbosity and bluster, Miller is highly skilled and well rounded, and presents the surging Shields with a stern challenge in all facets of the fight game.

So how will the Stikeforee middleweight championship fight go down? Let's take a look.

Strikeforce Main Event Breakdown: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Brett Rogers

Fedor EmelianenkoIn August of 1995, Sports Illustrated's Tom Verducci penned a feature about pitcher Greg Maddux entitled "Once in a Lifetime." Wearing an Atlanta Braves uniform, Maddux also graced the cover of SI in that issue. The photo showed a focused Maddux a nanosecond after delivering a pitch. The caption read "The Greatest Pitcher You'll Ever See."

One line in the story has stuck with me for all these years: "Did you see van Gogh paint? No, you could respond, but I saw Greg Maddux pitch." Maddux, of course, has nothing to do with MMA (although he has attended at least one UFC event), but the premise of the story has everything to do with Saturday night.

Fedor Emelianenko is MMA's van Gogh, its immeasurably gifted genius, and Saturday, he will be fighting Brett Rogers in front of the largest American audience ever to witness him.

Georges St.-Pierre 100 Percent, Plans to Fight in March or April

UFC welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre says the abductor muscle he tore at UFC 100 is completely healed, and he's expecting to fight again in March or April.

Georges St. Pierre Signs Endorsement Deal With Under Armour

Georges St. PierreBarriers are not always smashed with a sledgehammer. Sometimes they're chiseled away a little at a time.

A case in point is MMA's move to mainstream acceptance, which has occurred in bits and pieces. The latest step forward comes courtesy of welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre, who has signed a multi-year endorsement deal with top-selling athletic brand Under Armour.

MMA Top 10 Pound-for-Pound: Shogun Rua Is Back

For the first time since his loss to Forrest Griffin more than two years ago, Shogun Rua can legitimately be called one of the top 10 fighters in MMA -- and it took a loss to get him there.

Rua's unanimous decision loss to Lyoto Machida in the main event at UFC 104 was a fight that most people thought he deserved to win, and a fight that makes one thing very clear: Shogun is back.

But where does Shogun fit in our list of the Top 10 pound-for-pound fighters in MMA? Find out below.

Mackens Semerzier on His MMA Upset of the Year: 'I Fully Expected to Win'

Mackens SemerzierUpon authoring perhaps the biggest upset of the year in mixed martial arts, Mackens Semerzier nonchanlantly rose from the canvas, whispered a thanks to his fallen opponent Wagnney Fabiano for the opportunity to compete against him, and simply smiled to the camera broadcasting the shocker to the world.

No one would have objected if Semerzier, who according to multiple MMA wagering sites entered the bout as the biggest underdog of the 10-card WEC event, pulled out a bottle of champagne and uncorked it right in the center of the cage. Instead, he illustrated the maturity that led to his win in the first place by controlling his emotions in a supercharged moment.

"I say this with total confidence: I fully expected to win," said the previously little-known Semerzier, who improbably submitted top three featherweight Fabiano with a triangle choke. "Not that I walk around saying I can beat anyone, but that's a thing for me in life: you can always win. You can always find a way. I always thought, 'I'm going to figure out a way to do it. So when I win, it doesn't surprise me."

Humble Ben Henderson Makes Big Statement: 'I Will Be the Best'

Ben HendersonOn his way to what he believes will be a star turn during Oct. 10's WEC interim lightweight title matchup with old friend Donald Cerrone, Ben Henderson is intent on staying humble.

During the first time he starts referring to himself in third-person in an interview, Henderson abruptly stops, apologizes and gives his permission to offer him a dirty look at any repeat. (It never comes.) At a table in a hotel eatery, he politely answers questions as the minutes tick by, well aware that he has missed his airport shuttle, but never letting on. So when he states his grand intentions, it's no surprise he qualifies them with tinges of modesty.

"I'm not the fastest, the biggest or the strongest. I'm a mediocre-sized 155-pounder," he said. "I don't think I have any God-given abilities that put me above and beyond anyone else. I'm just highly motivated. I want to be the best, and I will be the best. That's it."

Brazil Should Include Jiu-Jitsu and MMA in 2016 Olympic Celebration

Just one week ago, an international contingent descended upon Barcelona in an athletic competition composed of greats from around the world, including the U.S., Japan, Brazil, Poland, Finland, Australia, France, Iceland and more. Just one week before that, in Dallas, another collection of sportsmen from around the globe came together for a different athletic event. This one boasted athletes from the U.S., Croatia, Belarus, the UK, Denmark and more.

The former was the Abu Dhabi Combat Club championship, a submission wrestling tournament that emphasizes jiu-jitsu, while the latter was UFC 103, representing mixed martial arts. With Rio de Janeiro being chosen as the host site of the 2016 Olympics, Brazil's role in the formation of jiu-jitsu and MMA, and the continuing popularity boom of both sports, it seems clear that both jiu-jitsu and MMA deserve to be included in the Olympic celebration.

Mike Swick vs. Dan Hardy in Works for Title Shot Against GSP

Mike SwickThe UFC is targeting a Mike Swick-Dan Hardy matchup to determine the top contender to Georges St. Pierre's welterweight championship, company president Dana White confirmed to FanHouse in a text message.

Swick (14-2) had been scheduled to face off with Martin Kampmann at UFC 103 for the right to face St. Pierre, but suffered a concussion in training about two weeks before the fight. The UFC brought in Paul Daley to replace him, and the debuting Brit upset Kampmann with a first-round TKO, shaking up the title picture.

Matt Hughes Signs New UFC Deal

Matt HughesMatt Hughes has signed a new multi-fight deal with the UFC, officially ending rumors and speculation that the former UFC welterweight champ had fought his last fight at UFC 98 in May.

"Last week I went out to Vegas and I signed a multi-fight deal with the UFC, which is much like my last contract," Hughes wrote Thursday on his blog. "I also brought up the fact that I wanted to do a hunting show and they thought that would be a good thing."

Hughes (43-7) was victorious in his last fight against Matt Serra, but had entered UFC 98 with three losses out of his previous four fights.
