Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Megatron Malfunctions, MJD Sounds Off

Cut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

We kinda saw this coming. Wouldn't it be nice if Calvin Johnson could transform like the real Megatron and withstand even the most crushing blows? Alas, he's human just like the rest of the stars our fantasy football team depends on. After taking a beating against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Johnson limped off the field with a right knee injury, his second ailment in the past two weeks. Now his status is very up in the air heading into what would be a great matchup with Green Bay. Is it time to get worried about our silver-and-blue crusader?

FanHouse Preview: Patriots at Broncos

It's not very often you'll find a 4-0 team as a home underdog against a non-undefeated team, but that's exactly the scenario that has played out. New England's only road game this season was in New York, where the Jet defense completely stifled the New England offense as the team handed the Patriots their only loss of the season. No defense has played better than that of the Denver Broncos, and the team has given up just 26 points combined over the first four games of the season. Sure, a couple of those games were against Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell-led teams, but you can only beat the teams you play, and Denver has done a great job of that this year.

Fantasy Football Over/Under: Week 5

Here's how it works. We throw some intriguing matchups at the FanHouse staff and ask whether each player will be over or under a certain point total. The result? Fantasy Football Over/Under. Makes sense, right?

The fantasy football landscape is starting to shake out a bit, and it's time to change the way you look at some players. With that in mind, we've listed two of the hottest receivers in football as No. 1 WRs this week.

No need to say much else -- you know how the game works by now. Just remember to stop by Fantasy FanHouse before game time on Sunday, as we'll be answering your fantasy questions from 10:30 AM ET until the first kickoff.

Fantasy Football Week 5 Rankings: RB

Brian WestbrookBrian Westbrook is going to enjoy himself as he returns to both the gridiron and the Top 5 in the FanHouse fantasy football running back rankings for Week 5.

In Week 3, Brian Westbrook had the pleasure of sitting out and watching his heir apparent run wild on a terrible Kansas City defense (who I like to call the Swiss Chiefs). In Week 4, the Eagles had a bye week, and Westbrook went ahead and got himself healthy. He's also likely a bit motivated to prove he's still the superior back in Philly, as he's always done after missing a game or two due to injury. In Week 5, the Eagles play the Buccaneers, who are even worse defensively than the Chiefs. The Bucs are allowing 4.8 yards per carry, over 170 rushing yards per game and 28 points per game.

Fantasy Felony: Time to Trade Braylon

Braylon EdwardsFantasy Felony helps you hijack your fellow owners.

For weeks, Braylon Edwards has been failing to live up to his potential, catching just 10 balls in four games and scoring no touchdowns. The Browns have finally had enough of the mercurial receiver and, exploiting the trade lines opened on the weekend of the 2009 NFL Draft, have traded Edwards to the Jets for talented-but-unheralded receiver Chansi Stuckey, a special teams player, and two draft picks. In my leagues, this has given Edwards' perceived value a huge boost, as fantasy owners are falling over each other trying to add the former Brown.

But note that I said perceived value.

LSU Fans Have John Brantley's Number

Florida hasn't hit the field to play LSU, but already the Tigers have Gator quarterback John Brantley's number. His cell phone number, in fact. Yes, those crazy Cajuns have struck again, discovering the phone number of projected Gators starting quarterback John Brantley and doing pesky things with it like you'd expect an amateur fan base to do.

This is sort of old hat for LSU, as its fans also figured out how to reach out and touch opponents such as Alabama quarterback John Parker Wilson and Georgia back Knowshon Moreno. They're rumored to have also discovered the numbers for several other Florida players and even coach Urban Meyer. At this rate they're probably not to far from reaching President Barack Obama with a different kind of 3 AM call if his health care push upsets them too much.

A.J. Green Hero, Goat for Bulldogs

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times for the nearly unstoppable force that is Georgia receiver A.J. Green. After scorching Arkansas (137 yards, two touchdowns) and Arizona State (153 yards, touchdown) in consecutive weeks, Green mixed in a third consecutive dose of awesome (99 yards, touchdown) in catching a leaping touchdown to give Georgia a 13-12 lead over LSU with just over a minute left on Saturday. Then, while being mobbed by teammates he somehow drew a celebration penalty, going 'Locker 2.0' on his teammates.

The penalty was crucial, contributing to a lengthy kick return by LSU's superfast dwarf, Trindon Holliday. Holliday took the kick to the Bulldogs' 42 yard line, almost into field goal position. LSU back Charles Scott did him one better, shedding several tackles on the way to a 33-yard touchdown run several plays later for the eventual 20-13 margin. Effectively, that was ballgame despite Georgia thoroughly dominating the second half in escaping the hole of a nearly game-long 6-0 deficit.

Fantasy Football Reality Check: Matt Forte's Time Coming

Matt ForteEach Monday of the fantasy football season, we'll cut through the fantasy numbers put up by individuals and tell you what they really mean.

In the overwhelming majority of fantasy football leagues this season, Matt Forte was a top-5 pick. He was coming off a sensational rookie season and now had a strong-armed quarterback to stretch the defense and open running lanes for him. Thus far, the payoff for Forte owners has been quite futile. In two games, he's carried the ball 38 times for 84 yards -- without scoring a touchdown.

Be patient, though, because the payoff is on the horizon.

Don't Look Now, but Broncos Are Coming Back With a Vengeance

It didn't take a miracle this week, but the Broncos won all the same.

The Broncos moved to 2-0 with a 27-6 victory against the hapless Cleveland Browns on Sunday afternoon, and they did it behind a defense that continues to bear no resemblance to the ones that made Mile High Stadium a fairly innocuous place to visit over the last two seasons. Elvis Dumervil's four sacks of Brady Quinn led the effort, and his strip of Quinn on the first Browns drive of the second half helped a 10-6 game become a rout.

The Browns converted just 3 of 14 third downs, gained only 200 yards overall and, generally, looked like they had no answer to the newly-frisky Broncos 3-4 scheme.

Fantasy Football Sunday Wrap-Up: Cadillac an Escalade

Cadillac WilliamsSunday Evening Wrap checks out players who increased or decreased their value during the Sunday afternoon games.

We all know that every case is different, but value machine should generally be used by owners who enjoy making trades. If a player's stock is high, you shouldn't be trading for him. If a guy's stock is low, you should either trade for him or hold on to him. Obviously, every situation is unique, and that's why we'll discuss each guy.

Biggest : Cadillac Williams. Didn't you hear? He's back ... and apparently better than ever. Caddy's knees have gone through hell and high water, and Sunday he showed the same burst we saw at Auburn. The Cowboys run defense isn't bad, but Williams sliced through it for 97 yards and a score on just 13 carries. Expect another good game next week when the Bucs face the Bills.
