Latest Matt Leinart Stories

Fantasy Football Chat Recap

Favremania takes a back seat for the week, but that doesn't mean that we have nothing to talk about. What happened to the Jaguars? You'd think if a guy rushed for 170 yards on seven carries, he might be able to get more than one look in the fourth quarter. What happened to Kurt Warner, and would you be well-served picking up Matt Leinart with Arizona's cake playoff schedule looming?

On Thursday evening, we answered all your fantasy football questions -- everything from trade talk, lineup decisions, free agents calling to you for an add, or tweaking your roster for the playoffs.

Good News Pats Haters: Tom Brady Is Going to Hell

If Titans head coach Jeff Fisher is looking for a silver lining, something to motivate his team hours after getting throttled by the Patriots 59-0, maybe this is it: Tom Brady is going to Hell.

At least according to the Amazing Grace Baptist Church, which declared that New England's quarterback is destined for eternal damnation for his sinful existence in this life. Via NESN (via the Huddle)

Sorting the Sunday Pile, Week 1: Must-Win Games

Sorting the Sunday Pile looks back at the NFL weekend that was. It's also an unofficial Brady Quinn blog.

A year ago, Matt Cassel got his chance to be an NFL starting quarterback when then-Chiefs safety Bernard Pollard blew up Tom Brady's knee. Cassel led the Patriots to 11 wins, and played well enough for the Chiefs to trade for him in the offseason.

Smash cut to Cassel tweaking his knee during Kansas City's third preseason game (God's sense of humor is underrated), which forced him to miss the first Sunday of the 2009 season. Any chances the Chiefs -- an outfit that won six times in their last 32 games -- had against the Ravens were out the window with Cassel on the bench.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: It's the Broadway Sanchez Show

Mark SanchezCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's daily gathering of links from around the web, covering the goings-on in NFL Training Camp which have an impact on fantasy value.

To the surprise of virtually nobody, Broadway Sanchez will get the starting nod as the QB of the New York Jets. Despite looking uncertain and a lot like an inexperienced rookie this preseason, the Jets will entrust Mark Sanchez to lead the franchise towards the future. From a fantasy football perspective that is the only way to view Mark Sanchez -- by way of the future, meaning keeper leagues only for next year. Let's not lose the focus; he'll do you no good this season.

Life Coach Cooley Gives Colt Brennan Advice on Jessica Simpson Rumors

On its face, it sounds implausible. No way Jessica Simpson, singer, "actress," inspiration to millions ... of preteens, would date a third-string quarterback. Particularly given that her last relationship was with the face of the Cowboys, Tony Romo.

But then I remembered that she was married to Nick Lachey, who was known more for hanging out with Matt Leinart than he was for his musical talents as a member of 98 Degrees. So maybe there is something to the rumor that Simpson and Colt Brennan (No. 3 on the depth chart, No. 1 in the hearts and minds of Redskins fans) are a couple.

What to Watch for in Thursday's Games That Don't Count

Patriots QB Tom Brady returns to action Thursday night in Philadelphia.
All eyes will be on Philadelphia Thursday night, as the Great One returns to competition.

Tom Brady hasn't played in almost a year. His blown-out knee now healed, Brady is a rare breed in today's NFL -- he's a veteran player who's actually looking forward to the preseason. As the summer schedule kicks off in earnest Thursday, Brady is far from the only interesting storyline.

Vince Young Might Be Willing to Take Pay Cut to Stay With Titans

When it became clear that Vince Young wasn't going to get his starting job back from Kerry Collins, the speculation began. Young, selected third-overall in the 2006 draft -- before Matt Leinart or Jay Cutler -- started 13 games as a rookie, leading the Titans to an 8-8 record (including a 6-1 finish). In 2007, Young started 15 times, the Titans won 10 games, and they qualified for the postseason for the first time since 2003. All seemed well.

Then, last season, VY went down with a knee injury in Week 1, Collins came in, performed well enough to keep the gig (the Titans went 13-3 and Collins got a new deal), and the talk turned to Young's future in Tennessee.

Rumors Persist: Leinart Might Lose Out to St. Pierre for Backup Job

In March, a month after the Steelers' come-from-behind victory over the Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, Arizona backup-to-the-backup quarterback Brian St. Pierre told his hometown paper that not only did the team want to re-sign him, but head coach Ken Whisenhunt indicated that he would get a legitimate chance to compete with Matt Leinart for the No. 2 job.

At the time, It seemed more like idle offseason speculation, especially since the Cards had taken Leinart with the 10th-overall pick in 2006, and St. Pierre, a career clipboard toter, had thrown one NFL pass in seven years. Now, with training camps underway, word on the street is that Leinart indeed might be in danger of dropping to third on the depth chart.

Patriots Sign Andrew Walter, Know Something Raiders Don't

Al Davis loves speedy wide receivers and strong-armed quarterbacks. These are well-known facts that explain -- though don't justify -- many of the Raiders' draft-day decisions.

There was a time, 25 to 30 years ago, when Oakland's reliance on the deep pass was integral to its success. But defenses evolve to combat offensive advancements and what was in vogue a few seasons back will almost certainly be obsolete today.

It's an arms race. Unless you're Davis, who still has visions of Kenny Stabler or Jim Plunkett regularly connecting with Cliff Branch. Meanwhile, the reality is that the Raiders are one of the worst organizations in the league, and there's no reason to think that will change anytime soon.
