MLB Poetry Previews: Boston Red Sox

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain
in house and shine a rhyming spotlight on the Red Sox pitching!.

2007 left BoSox with new shiny rings
But that doesn't necessarily mean they'll be '08 kings

The pressure's always on after a championship year
This is going to be an important season in each pitcher's career

The '07 pitching got the job done, to my dismay
Everyone from Beckett to Aki -- save for Gagne...

They didn't land Santana, didn't want a trade too extreme
Leaving Schilling et al to carry the team

Bad news for the fans: there's already some trouble
Injuries to Schill and Beck mean they'll have to redouble

Wakefield's personal catcher is a thing of the past
Hopefully his knuckleball can stand fast

As for Dice-K, he's got to improve
4.40 ERA is alright, but it leaves him with something to prove

Young Lester's got the talent to pitch with his peers
But he's pitched just 26 games over the span of years

Back in the bullpen the crew's just as good
So long as they're healthy they'll dominate - that's just understood

Paplebon's arm has got to be watched though
Some "Joba Rules" woulda been good two years ago

This poem's gone too long so I'll leave you with this to ponder:
Will the pitching step up or squander?

MLB Poetry Previews: New York Yankees

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled
MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain
in house and cross our fingers for the Yanks!.

The Yanks had a(nother) disappointing post-season
I'd like to blame gnats, but that wasn't the only reason

This year they want to go all the way
And take a look at their roster: they've got the goods, I must say

They passed on Santana by not pulling out all the stops
In favor of keeping the young'uns on the team, which is tops

Nothing beats having talented kids on the roster
Cashman's got even more on the farm to foster

Of course there are veterans on the team, too
Posada and Jeter should lead the team through

The biggeset moves, of course, were Girardi and A-Rod
Both fabulous signings that greatly improved the squad

With Girardi at the helm I'm feeling optimistic
It should go without saying that the Yankees are my pick!

MLB Poetry Previews: Baltimore Orioles

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled
MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain
in house and ponder the rebuilding phase in which the Orioles live.

"It's time to rebuild!" management said
"And trade Tejada and Bedard for prospects instead
"Let's shore up our farm
"and tone some young arms
"Forget about this year, just look ahead"

MLB Poetry Previews: Tampa Bay Rays

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled
MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain
in house and remind y'all: The Rays are working hard to build up their young core!

Let's get this out on the table right away
The Rays may not be in contention, but they'll still fun to watch play

Kazmir, Shields, and Garza:
Three young pitchers with lots of hutzpa

It's a young team, which is great for the future years
The only old folks are Percival, Floyd and Reyes and they'll be able to mentor their peers

The unfortunate story of the Rocco Baldelli is a huge bust
He was a bright point on the team but he'll be on the sideline collecting rust

I'd love to see them give the Sox and Yanks a run for their money
But it won't be this year, honey

Oh, and by the way:
I wouldn't rule out a Bonds signing if in July he lowers his expected pay!

MLB Poetry Previews: San Diego Padres

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain
in house and wonder: Will the Padres recover from their 2007 bust-out?

Nothing's more disappointing than missing a post-season chance
(Just ask the Yankees, who've become used to that song and dance)

The Padres were so close but the Rockies wound up on top
This year San Diego wants to put that to a stop

With Peavy, Hoffman, and Young their pitching is great
PETCO's a beast for batters so in the pitchers' hands lie their fate

Like the Giants their offense is weak
Kouz and A-Gon better step up lest they leave the team up a creek

If they can stay injury-free the division is theirs for the taking
I have a good feeling this is a division champ team in the making!

MLB Poetry Previews: Detroit Tigers

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

Today we preview the Detroit Tigers, and our guest poet is Kurt Mensching of Mack Avenue Tigers

I once had some Pepto Bismol
To be drank when Todd is abysmal
But with Miguel here
Fans have little to fear
Still we're awaiting Jones' dismissal

MLB Poetry Previews: Colorado Rockies

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

For today's poem, we remain in house and wonder: Can the Rockies pull off another division win in 2008?

The Rockies made quite a splash in 2007
To have such success must have felt like heaven

The big question in everyone's brain:
Can they repeat in '08 and continue their reign?

Twas wise not to trade everyone away
They kept their great core -- Tulo, Atkins, and Holliday

Management chose not to make many changes
Fans' confidence in the team -- well, that ranges

Some folks view last year's success as a fluke
They had enough strokes of good luck to make Padres fans puke

A strong start this year is gonna be key
Jumping ahead quick is vital, you'll see

Their main obstacle isn't talent or luck
It's the division they're in that might make them stuck

To win the NL West is a task very tough
Topping the Padres this year will be even more rough

Methinks the division's in for another tight race
Watch out Pads, Dodgers and Snakes: The Rocks will surely keep pace!

MLB Poetry Preview: Cleveland Indians

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

Today's poet is Paul Cousineau of the Indians blog, The DiaTribe

Up three games to one, Cleveland was ready to cheer
When suddenly the teams' eyes evoked headlights and a deer
But Grady and Victor and an award-winning Lefty
(One whose frame would qualify as quite Hefty)
Have all of us wondering if '08 is finally "Next Year"

MLB Poetry Previews: Chicago White Sox

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

Today's poet is White Sox blogger Jim Margalus of Sox Machine.

The road not taken

Two roads diverged by dismal wood,
The obvious choice was to rebuild
With a thin farm system long he stood
And a roster and bullpen that just weren't good
Hopes for two thousand eight had chilled;

MLB Poetry Preview: Minnesota Twins

As part of our season preview, FanHouse asked bloggers from around the internet to write a poem previewing their team's upcoming season in a series entitled MLB Poetry Previews. It's like high school English class, except about baseball!

Today's poet is Sooze from Babes Love Baseball.

The Twins are awesome at fielding
Though a big bat no one is wielding
Morneau hits 'em long
But the order isn't strong
I guess that's why they call it rebuilding
