Mike Skinner OK After Scary Crash

The combination of NASCAR's safety developments over the past decade likely saved another driver from serious injury or worse Friday night at Lowe's Motor Speedway.

On lap 34, Mike Skinner dove to the low side of Johnny Sauter, caught the infield grass and spun a complete 360 before plowing head first into the third dogleg of the LMS frontstretch during a Camping World Truck Series event. Another truck collided simulaneously with Skinner, flipping the black No. 5 truck on its side.

'Onion' Reveals Best NASCAR Strategy

The Onion -- "America's Finest News Source" -- may have finally discovered Kyle Busch's secret to all-out NASCAR domination: [click to play]

Who would've thought that something as simple as "Drive Fast" was the key?

Waltrip's 'Earl' Cameo Couldn't Be Better

NASCAR drivers aren't exactly strangers to making television cameos, but they've yet to be the perfect match Michael Waltrip landed this week.

Waltrip, ever a character in the NASCAR garage, enjoyed his first off week on the NASCAR schedule by flying out to Hollywood for the taping of an episode of NBC's My Name is Earl. The cameras started rolling this week for the comedy sitcom that's scheduled to air on Thursday, April 30.

And from the looks of things, Waltrip's role won't be too much of a stretch for the Kentucky native.

Rubbin' Is Racin': Montoya, The Cameraman and The Wife

Since there wasn't a Cup race this weekend and there wasn't any good Busch footage on YouTube, I went hunting for some Juan Pablo Montoya highlights, specifically Newman / Raines from Martinsville. We'll have to get to those another time, 'cause in my search I came across another little gem.

No idea when/where this video is from, but it is fantastic!

Montoya is strolling along at an F1 event with his wife, Connie Freidel, and isn't completely aware of his surroundings when he gets plowed in the head by a cameraman. JPM goes off in the guy's face, "You broke my head," and proceeds to show off his mastery of American profanity and insults.

The Misses doesn't miss a beat stepping in between her hot-tempered husband and the apologetic cameraman. Then she also goes mom on him in an attempt to shut his potty-mouth.

Idiota de mierda.

Why NASCAR Is Better Than Your Favorite Sport

Reason #2,664: Beer bongs are allowed (or at least not discouraged) in the stands.

(As witnessed in this video taken last weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.)
Now what other sport can claim that?

Rubbin' is Racin': Atlanta Motor Speedway

Tony Stewart: "It Got Awful Crowded There Off of Turn Two"

That's a nice way of saying defending Nextel Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson forced him into the wall late in the race.

Johnson:
"Sorry."

That was quite a race to the finish. Stewart raced Johnson clean and he sure wasn't returned the favor.

But the real rubbin' happened earlier in the race on lap 233 between Greg Biffle and David Reutimann. Their collision collected Brian Vickers and Kasey Kahne, ruining their days, too.

Who's fault was it? Well that always depends on who you ask.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. In-Car Audio: Best of?

Every week, the #8 Budweiser PR team puts together the "Best Radio Chatter" after each race. Frequently, the best part is left out of the "Best of."

Witness in-car audio highlights from last week, when Junior made a mistake coming down pit road:
Eury Jr: "I'm almost thinking we need to pit here for tires. With this many cars on the lead lap..."
Hmiel: (as the 8 car follows the 31 onto pit lane): "Pit lane is closed! Pit lane is closed!"
Dale Jr: "He was a lead lap car! I just came down with him. I wasn't paying attention."
Eury Jr: "These things kick our ass all the time. We gotta pay more attention.** The NASCAR official says we need to start at the back of the outside line on the restart."
Dale Jr.: "We'll probably get another caution."
** What was left out of the "best of" was the Junior's response and the long pause in between Tony's comments:
Eury Jr.: "We gotta pay more attention."
Dale Jr.: "Well, then start."

It's Not Over 'Til It's Over: Johnson Goes to the High Side

Jimmie Johnson finished ahead of Matt Kenseth last year in Las Vegas by 0.045 seconds - the closest margin in track history that didn't end under caution.

We can only hope for a finish tomorrow as dramatic as 2006's green/white checkered flag. Don't recall? Let this lil' fan--accompanied by a dramatic music score--help you remember:

NASCAR Fanhouse Power Rankings: Las Vegas

82851. Kyle Busch (10/1)
Shrub has the home track advantage and has posted two consecutive tops 5s. More importantly, 2006's "worst of the best" owes his girlfriend more face time on national television so he can call her by her right name.

80562. Matt Kenseth (8/1)
He's coming off a win in California, has posted two wins in the City of Sin and has the Roush advantage. He's also led the most laps here ... but this is a brand new track and he was never better than 14th in testing. Surely, he'd like to add to the 15 extra bonus points he's banked against the pre-season penalty.

8074

3. Jimmie Johnson (7/1)
Defending series champion and defending race champion hasn't had a great showing so far this season. He sits 15th in the standings with a best starting position of 21st. Will 2007 prove to be as hard on its reigning champion as 2006 was?

74534. Kevin Harvick (10/1)
NASCAR inspectors have yet to detect the magnet hiding in the #29 chassis that draws it to victory lane ... until they do, he's bound for a few more visits.

80575. Tony Stewart (6/1)
He thinks the new banking at LVMS has made the track too fast for stock cars. More likely it's improved aerodynamics resulting from his new physique, which he's not going to maintain for long if he keeps eating all those Banquet pot pies. Maybe Jared will help keep him on the straight and narrow.

80816. Mark Martin (30/1)
What's up with those odds? The points leader and winner of the inaugural Cup event at LMVS should be a favorite. He has the most top 5s, along with Stewart, and the most top 10s of all drivers. But even a win Sunday and continued lead won't change his mind about running a full season.

8081Wildcard. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (8/1)
Despite his season-opening back-to-back DNFs, the Mayor of Whiskey River's odds are as good as Kenseth's. And those are better than his odds of getting 51% ownership of DEI right now. But right now, the key number is 35. Last year's Chaser--currently 40th in the standings--has the luxury of a guaranteed starting position for only 3 more weeks.

8081Longshot. Brian Vickers (100/1)

The red bull may have only qualified for one out of two races this season, but when he did, BV posted a top 10 finish. He's full of energy this season and had already proven he's willing to move anyone out of his way for the win.

Rubbin' is Racin': Montoya / Pruett in Mexico

Here's video of the contact made in Sunday's race between the Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates teammates, Juan Pablo Montoya and Scott Pruett.

Judge for yourselves ... Did JPM race him clean or was he too aggressive getting past Pruett?

Update:
Were there were plenty of laps left for him to complete the pass? Maybe yes, maybe no. Who's to say he would have caught up with him again?

I just don't think that JPM is fully responsible for this incident. He clearly had enough room to pull ahead of him ... and then Pruett came back down. The real question is ... where the heck was Pruett's spotter?
