Postgame Thoughts -- Connecticut 72, Purdue 60

Hasheem Thabeet and Connecticut were too much for Purdue in the Sweet SixteenGotta love Robbie Hummel's toughness, not to mention his ability. The kid did everything he possibly could to make sure the Boilermakers didn't get run out of the building. But in the end, Purdue didn't have anything or anybody that could do anything at all to combat Hasheem Thabeet.

There is no shame in this. No one does. There's no player in college basketball that has any kind of answer for Thabeet, which is why UConn remains a worthy 1-seed and one of the favorites to win the whole thing in spite of the absence of Jerome Dyson. They still have way too many good players to be counted out, and they have the game-changer in the middle. Thirteen rebounds, four blocks, just one foul...he did everything he wanted to do tonight, and as a result the Huskies didn't have to sweat.

After Crushing Purdue, Is Michigan in?

Bill Raftery sounded the call early and often during Thursday night's ESPN broadcast: If Michigan could pull off a home upset of No. 16 Purdue, it would essentially secure a spot in the NCAA tournament. The Wolverines upheld their end of the bargain, jumping out to a 16-point second-half lead and posting an impressive 87-78 win over the Boilermakers.

So is Raftery right?

Selwyn Lymon Stabbed In Chest

Purdue wide receiver Selwyn Lymon can't catch a break:
Lymon arrived at a hospital about 2:45 a.m. with a stab wound to the upper chest and told medical workers that he was attacked at a near-campus nightclub, said John Walker, deputy chief of West Lafayette Police Department. Lymon, 20, of Fort Wayne, was in stable condition before going to surgery at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Lafayette, police said. An updated condition was not immediately available from hospital officials.
Lymon doesn't appear to be in any serious trouble but -- stab wounds to the chest not being a common athletic injury outside of Thailand and people who've crossed Ray Lewis -- no prognosis is immediately available.

If Lymon is unavailable early in the season, it would be a blow to the Boilermaker's admittedly vague hopes for a big year. Notre Dame fans, though obviously concerned for the young man's well-being, might say a little prayer he and his 238 receiving yards -- a Notre Dame opponent record -- are absent for this fall's Purdue game.
