The Indians placed designated hitter Travis Hafner on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday because of soreness in his right shoulder.
Hafner missed much of the 2008 season because of a strained right shoulder, and he had surgery on it last October, so Cleveland has to be hoping this is just a bump in the road and not a recurrence of the very health problem that put him on the shelf for much of last year.
After two down seasons by his own standards, the Indians slugger was off to a good start in 2009, with four homers, eight RBI and a .910 OPS in 17 games.
Left-handed pitcher Rich Rundles was called up from Triple-A Columbus to take Hafner's roster spot.
