Problem Solved? Randy St. Claire Out as Nationals Pitching Coach

The Nationals announced the firing of pitching coach Randy St. Claire on Tuesday, which doesn't come as much of a surprise when you see their 5.49 team ERA. The team told St. Claire on Monday night, and they'll have Steve McCatty working with their pitchers when they face the Giants in Washington.

While the move isn't surprising, it isn't particularly fair either. You'd need to be a miracle worker of the highest order to make something out of the slop merchants that the Nationals employ in their bullpen, especially playing in front of a terrible defense. Their rotation, while nothing to write home about, looks like it's headed in the right direction with the arrival of Ross Detwiler and Jordan Zimmermann.

MLB Power Rankings: Week 8

MLB Power Rankings: Where MLB FanHouse's editors, writers and bloggers team up to break down the who's who and the what's what in the baseball world.

Well, that took freaking forever ... but the Blue Jays finally started to stink the joint up. I swear to you, you can't stay long atop the MLB Power Rankings -- our failure by osmosis jinxing ability is just too strong, son. At any rate, it was a weird week for ranking baseball: the Cubs continued to skid, the Padres went on a tear and Toronto fell off the face of the planet. So, yeah, spiciness ensued, and you may take the jump to see how badly your team fared. Unless you're a Rangers or a Braves fan, in which case they couldn't have done that poorly.

Detwiler Gives Nats Glimmer of Hope

WASHINGTON – The Orioles seem to have everything in the Battle of the Beltways.

They have an actual fanbase, a better ballpark, a brighter future, courtesy of Matt Wieters, and a sunnier present, thanks to Adam Jones and Nick Markakis.

They even have wins in the first two of six meetings between the downtrodden franchises this year.

Baltimore is farther along in its grand rebuilding scheme than the Nationals in every way ... except one: It doesn't have anyone with the ceiling of Ross Detwiler in its major league rotation. At least not yet.

Fantasy Week 7: Two-Start Pitchers

There are some pretty good two-start pitchers going in week seven of the fantasy baseball season. Chad Billingsley and Dan Haren lead the list of "Must Start" pitchers, while I'm not sure which option would be riskier between Dontrelle Willis and Tim Redding this week.

There are 47 two-start pitchers in all and you'll need to lock your lineup by 1:07 PM ET on Monday as that's first pitch between the White Sox and Blue Jays.

Must Start
Dan Haren , Diamondbacks - Monday at FLA (R. Nolasco) and Saturday at OAK (J. Outman)
Derek Lowe , Braves - Monday vs COL (J. Marquis) and Saturday vs TOR (S. Richmond)
Jair Jurrjens , Braves - Tuesday vs COL (J. Hammel) and Sunday vs TOR (B. Tallet)
