Fantasy Football Reality Check: Aberration Day for Forte and Tomlinson

LaDainian Tomlinson / Matt Forte
Each Monday of the fantasy football season, we'll cut through the fantasy numbers put up by individuals and tell you what they really mean.

Matt Forte and LaDainian Tomlinson have been albatrosses for most of the season, but both came through to help their fantasy football owners in Week 8. Forte ran for 90 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Tomlinson also scored twice and amassed 56 yards on the ground. If we look deeper, though, neither back did anything to make you think they're all of a sudden going to turn it on and start producing on a consistent basis.

The Once-Over: Week 8

Donovan McNabbWith attention spans dwindling, we forgo full game-by-game previews to give you the essentials you need to know about every contest this glorious NFL weekend. We call it The Once-Over.

The Early Games

New York Giants (5-2) at Philadelphia (4-2): The Giants are supposed to have one of the best pass rushes in the league, but they just haven't shown up in the past two games, with zero sacks over that time. They must get pressure on Donovan McNabb to have a chance on Sunday. Eli Manning also must figure out how to rebound from his four interceptions over the past two games.

Perfect Time to Begin Building Your Fantasy Football Stash

Mike WallaceStash or Trash tells you whether a prospective fantasy football pickup (or drop) is worthy of your roster spot.

It's getting to be that time of the football season when depth charts are rewritten in pencil, with an eraser handy, due to a plethora of circumstances. A player outside of the limelight may just be turning it on to become a force to be reckoned with. Or maybe injuries are beginning to take their toll and players who weren't counted on early will need to step up and perform.

Whatever the reason for a players' rise to prominence, if he's going to perform he needs to be on your fantasy football roster. It's that time of year to start stashing these upstart weapons -- one may turn into fantasy gold.

Fantasy Football Cram Session: Turnarounds and Trade Advice

Kevin Smith / Steven Jackson
The Rams-Lions contest this weekend has the potential to be one of the most unwatchable games in years. The Lions have only won once in the past two seasons and the Rams are 2-21 in that span. Remember, though, in fantasy football every game is exciting to some extent. In FanHouse's latest fantasy football podcast, Tom Herrera and Matt Snyder explain why they like both running backs -- Kevin Smith and Steven Jackson -- to have a good game Sunday. We also tackle why T.O. reminds Herrera of a smelly homeless guy on the subway this week, reveal our Starting Six Pack and discuss several deep league plug-n-play options (like Brian Hartline).

Bust a Move: Cashing In on Greene

Shonn GreeneFantasy FanHouse's "Bust a Move" segment provides quick-hitting insight on the most popular adds and drops across Fleaflicker fantasy leagues between Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. Knowing who is on the move during this 24-hour period often provides a valuable edge with regard to outperforming or underperforming players, injuries and depth chart shifts. So do as the man says, "Don't just stand there..."

The Adds

Shonn Greene (RB, Jets, 3,866 adds) - No secret here as the Irish eyes smiled upon Shonn Greene this past weekend. Just as it looked like Greene's odds at making an impact in his rookie season were getting close to nil, Leon Washington suffered a broken leg and headed off to the old sawbones. Given his chance, Greene earned his keep with 144 yards and two touchdowns in a rout of the hapless Raiders. Miami should prove a better test in Week 8 as to Greene's real worth, but for now he represents a must-add in all formats.

'House Check: The Juggernaut

Cedric BensonEvery Tuesday night, we'll give you an update on our FanHouse fantasy football league. Who hit on their sleepers? Who made the shrewd pickups? Who's practicing what they preach? In 'House Check, you'll find out.

Some teams struggle through the bye weeks, limping to a few wins here and there while trying to keep up with the competition. Some people make move after move, searching for a winning combination to turn a season around. Those people are not Will Brinson.

Will took down the previous high-scoring team this week, winning his fifth straight game after starting the season 0-2, with a ragtag bunch including workhorse back Cedric Benson and emerging No. 1 WR Sidney Rice. Other teams might fold when WR1 Greg Jennings struggles, but Brinson perseveres.

Fantasy Football Cut-N-Go: Jets' Washington Not Easily Replaced

Leon WashingtonCut-N-Go is Fantasy Football FanHouse's weekday roundup of the NFL news with fantasy football impact.

The season-ending injury to Jets running back Leon Washington is devastating for a number of reasons.

His change-of-pace running style will be sorely missed as will his 4.6 yards-per-carry average. The kick return team will also struggle to find a replacement. In fact, coach Rex Ryan says it will take many players to fill in for Washington.

Fantasy Football Waivers Chat Recap

Shonn GreeneAdd of the week? Undoubtedly Shonn Greene, but everyone knows that. Who are you banking on if you don't have the No. 1 waiver priority? I've got my heart set on a certain little Kansas City back -- well, I would, but he's already gone in all my leagues.

Join us at 6 PM ET and we'll help you set your waiver claims for Week 8. We'll also help with any potential trades you may have, or any other fantasy football questions on your mind. Remember that you only need to ask your question once, as multiple submissions of the same question just slow everything down.

Studs and Duds: Cars-On Target

Each week in the NFL, there are players that impress and players that distress. One week a certain quarterback might toss four touchdowns and run around pointing skyward, while the next he's laying on his back, holding his facemask as the other team returns one of his three interceptions for the game-winning score. With that in mind, here's Studs and Duds.

Studs

Carson Palmer, QB Cincinnati (20-24, 233 yards, 5 TDs) -- There was an interesting moment during "Hard Knocks" on HBO this year when Palmer was giving his center, Kyle Cook, a little bit of grief about the smell that Carson had on his hand after taking snaps. It was essentially boys being boys, but Palmer played it well and had some fun at the expense of Cook.

Waiver Wire Wonders: Gang Greene

Shonn GreeneWeeding through those unwieldy waiver wires requires a keen eye and a quick trigger. Thus, Waiver Wire Wonders provides a weekly snapshot of players worthy of consideration who should be available on a good portion of league waiver wires.

You can't paint a turd, folks. Week 7 gave us slim pickings in terms of waiver wire action. We saw a couple of interesting stories to add to the watch list, the reemergence of a quarterback long thought to be lost for dead, the first start of a highly-touted rookie, and a few other odds and ends, but really only one quality add via a huge day from a previously third-string rookie. All in all, it looks like a week to focus on lining up that blockbuster trade to take you down the backstretch, because the waiver wire gods did not offer us up much this week.
