Summer Scramble: NFC West Burning Questions and Prediction

Larry Fitzgerald
It's July, the slowest month of the year for the NFL, and it's driving you nuts. You need a fix. A hit. Anything NFL to pull you through the dog days. FanHouse is here to help with an in-depth look at each division that should have you plenty prepared for training camp. We're calling it Summer Scramble, and this afternoon we look at some Burning Questions in the NFC West and offer a ridiculously early prediction.

The Quarter-Season All-Bust Team

It's only necessary that we introduce an "All-Bust" Fantasy team. Yup, the season is still young, but chances are if you own any of these dudes...you're bitter. Well, take solace in the fact that a lot of folks can share in your pain. Are there better days on the horizon? Well, to be honest... it ain't likely.

Without further ado, let's roll into a position-by-position breakdown of those who have disappointed us early on. And then take a glimpse into what the rest of the campaign might hold for them.

QB: Carson Palmer and Derek Anderson (tie)

Carson Palmer has been a nightmare. He's regressed this season to the point of almost being useless. Wasn't it just a few short years ago he was looking on par to contend with the likes of Peyton Manning for top fantasy QB honors? A lot has changed in that time and he's morphed into a younger, less holy version of Jon Kitna. Um, then again is it really all his fault?

Injury Roundup For Sunday

TJ HoushmandzadehMark Curnutte has released the Bengals injury notes, and there's some bad news and some good news.

First the bad:
T.J. has been downgraded to questionable due to a heel injury. Chris Henry would obviously be the number two receiver if Houshmandzadeh is unable to play. Antonio Chatman won't be playing due to a groin injury, so I'm not sure who would be the number three wide receiver if no Houshmandzadeh. Possibly Kelley Washington? The Bengals are lucky to have so much depth, but I'm still hoping Houshmandzadeh will surprise us and start.

The good news is that Deltha O'Neal has been practicing, despite still being listed as questionable. If O'Neal can't play then rookie Johnathan Joseph will get the start, and I'd really rather avoid that.

Other quick injury news:
  • David Pollack is questionable, but he's been practicing. If he doesn't play then Rashad Jeanty (who the Bengals picked up from the CFL) would probably start.
  • Sam Adams is probable, but has not been practicing. He's kind of fat though, so he might need the rest.
  • Ahmad Brooks isn't expected to dress, but he's been practicing despite a neck injury.
