Olympic Dirty Bomb Not The Good News We Were Looking For

Before the recent Earthquake in China, it was very easy to take what ever pot shot you wanted to at China. But it becomes a very different subject when you are talking about individuals that have no say in world politics. And people that live so far away from you that they have absolutely no effect on you other than the story of their plight.

In these cases, you hope for some good news. And I'm very proud of the blogging community for making an effort to make a difference. Whether it be for Myanmar, China, or here in the United States. But when faced with the possibility of a dirty bomb being released at the Beijing Olympics you just have to wonder how possible it would be.

From a strategic point of view, what group would want to draw the ire of China, The United States, and all the countries that would surely join in? I really can't think of a worse place to be than the working end of those countries rage. I always thought the idea behind fourth generation warfare was to create a political divide. Not to unite countries that otherwise plan on a daily basis for war with the other.

Sure there is the possibility of someone would do it in the name of independence for Tibet. But the time it would take for most everyone that supports a free Tibet to distance themselves from that fight wouldn't require an egg timer.

I guess my point is that while someone could walk up behind me and set off a dirty bomb. The chances of it happening are far less than me slipping on a wet surface and breaking my neck. But still, the IAEA wants you be afraid. Very afraid! Even if they have no basis for wanting you to be afraid.
The IAEA said there is no specific information of an imminent attack on the Beijing games, but intelligence shows terrorists are trying to obtain nuclear materials."
To steal a line from a friend of mine, fear based thinking is never the answer. It just makes you worry about things that are not really relevant to your life. But it makes great headlines. So what is the terror alert level at because of this?

The Mariners Cannot Wait To Throw You Out

Unfortunately, I'm not talking about the rifle attached to Ichiro's shoulder. No, I'm talking about the fans. The Mariners have implemented a new red card policy for fans at SafeCo Field. The idea is taken directly from soccer, and I'm sure it will be just as popular.

Last summer, Andy Wattula and two friends settled into their outfield seats at Safeco Field to watch the Mariners play the Boston Red Sox. The warm, sunny Saturday afternoon was perfect for a ball game and was rendered even more ideal when the Sox opened up a big lead, to the delight of Wattula, who had just moved from Cambridge, Mass. As they stockpiled empty beer cups, Wattula and his friends-one a fellow Sox fan, the other a die-hard Mariners fan-bantered and joked with one another.

"The Sox were absolutely dominating the Mariners, and we were talking shit to my buddy," Wattula recalls. "He started trying to rally the Seattle fans, putting on his cap inside-out, being generally rowdy but not disrespectful. People around us thought it was funny, but I guess people behind us didn't."

Near the end of the game, a seating host (Safeco's term for "usher") appeared, holding a red slip of paper. She presented it to Wattula and his friends and informed them that they needed to leave. "You violated the code of conduct," she said.

They ain't even playin', dawg.

Alleged Fort Dix Terrorists Considered Army - Navy Game Attack

Alleged homegrown jihadis arrested more than a week ago considered the Army-Navy football game - one of college football's biggest rivalries - a possible target for attack.
Court papers said one of the arrested, in a monitored phone conversation, rued a missed opportunity to strike at the Army-Navy football game at Lincoln Financial Field, only a few miles from the site of Wednesday's meeting.

"Hopefully they decided it's too hard of a target so we're not going to try it," said Leonard Bonacci, director of event services for the Philadelphia Eagles and who helps oversee security at the stadium.
Fortunately the appropriate authorities were alerted to the plotters before they staged their eventual planned attack on a New Jersey military base. News like this is a reminder that we live in an unsafe world and hopefully authorities can continue to provide appropriate security at college football games and all sporting events to deter such horrible events from ever happening.
