Vince Young: I Don't Want to Be the Titans' Backup, But I Have No Choice

Titans quarterback Vince Young appeared on ESPN Thursday in an attempt to clear up previous comments in which he said he wants to start somewhere even if it's not in Tennessee, and then said through his agent that he wasn't looking for a trade. But while Young seems to have accepted that he's Kerry Collins' backup, he didn't really clear up much of anything.

Vince Young Making It Rain?

Titans quarterback Vince Young is dedicating himself in the offseason to regaining his starter role. Or not.

According to a TMZ.com video and article, Young decided to make it rain at a Nelly concert in Houston last week by pulling out a roll of money and showering a crowd with dollar bills. The longer, cuss-worded version of the evening is on the YouTubes and includes an interview with Vince Young. He gives his support to Houston rapper Willie D of the Geto Boys, who was recently arrested for alleged iPhone scam.

Titans Add Patrick Ramsey

Patrick RamseyAnother former Denver quarterback is on the move, though I doubt this transaction will register as high on the excitement scale as the Jay Cutler trade to Chicago.

Tennessee has agreed to terms with Patrick Ramsey, who served as Cutler's backup for the past two seasons. Ramsey's only action last season came at the tail end of a 41-7 blowout loss to the Jets -- he completed two-of-three pass attempts for 19 yards. The Titans will be Ramsey's fourth team, following Denver, the Jets and Washington.

Steelers, Titans to Kick Off '09 Season

Last week, word leaked that the Ravens asked the league to not consider them for a prime-time game in Pittsburgh next season, presumably because they're 0-3 under such circumstances, and if pressed, would prefer to lose in front of a regional audience instead of national one. Fair enough.

Mike Leach on System QB Label: 'Most Pitiful NFL Cop-Out of All'

Mike Leach doesn't have much of a track record when it comes to developing NFL quarterbacks, but then again, that's not his job. Since coming to Texas Tech in 2000, he's taken a football backwater to big-program prominence, amassing a 76-39 record and nine bowl appearances.

Vince Young Wants to Beat Out Kerry Collins as Titans' Starting QB

When the Tennessee Titans re-signed quarterback Kerry Collins to a two-year, $15 million contract last week, they effectively announced that they had no faith in Vince Young's ability to be a starter. Teams just don't sign 36-year-old quarterbacks to eight-figure contracts when they used the third pick in the draft on a quarterback three years earlier -- unless they think that draft pick was a mistake.

Titans Ink Kerry Collins Through 2011

This morning the Titans and Kerry Collins were "far apart" on a new contract and the team was ramping up efforts to re-sign their other backup, Chris Simms.

This afternoon NFL Network's Adam Schefter reported that the two sides are now very much on the same page -- Collins has agreed to a two-year, $15 million contract with $8.5 million guaranteed. Not necessarily earth-shattering news, as head coach Jeff Fisher indicated several times this offseason that the team would like to have Collins back as its starter.

Tennessee Titans: Trying to Forget That Ugly Ending

Because the NFL season never ends, we present our 2009 Offseason Roadmaps for front offices to navigate through the summer.

The Titans' 2008 season ranks as one of the greatest in team history. After a couple of years of either just making or just missing the playoffs, the Titans took a big step forward, finishing the season with the NFL's best record (13-3). Rookie running back Chris Johnson emerged as a big-play threat and Kerry Collins not only took over the starting quarterback job from Vince Young but proved that he has some life left in his arm.

Sanchez Prepares for Draft by Distancing Himself From Leinart

By most accounts, Mark Sanchez will be the second quarterback drafted this April behind Matt Stafford. The circumstances are similar to those another USC quarterback, Matt Leinart, faced three years ago.

In the months leading up to the 2006 draft, conventional wisdom had Leinart and Vince Young as the top draft-eligible quarterbacks and two NFL teams in search of a face for their franchise would be very happy with either player. As it turned out, both the Titans (they selected Young third overall) and the Cardinals (they grabbed Leinart with the 10th pick) have yet to see the return on their investment. Kerry Collins started 15 games in '08 and led Tennessee to a 13-win season, and Kurt Warner took Arizona to the Super Bowl.

Could Simms Be Titans' Plan B?

While the Titans are getting some signals that re-signing Kerry Collins isn't going to as easy as hoped, they apparently aren't working hard at re-upping third-string QB Chris Simms, the Nashville City Paper is reporting.

Simms says that the Titans have gone "above and beyond" in making it clear they want to bring him back. While he's understandably interested in what happens with Collins, but he also seems to be willing to potentially re-sign even if Collins is coming back. And when you hear that, you can't help but if that happens, it doesn't look good for Vince Young.
