CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Ricky Williams is 32 and far from done. And even without Ronnie Brown, the once written-off Miami Dolphins are back in the playoff picture.
Williams rushed for 119 yards and scored three touchdowns, and the Dolphins beat the Carolina Panthers 24-17 on Thursday night for their fourth win in six games.
A day after learning Brown is lost for the season, the Dolphins (5-5) continued their surge after an 0-3 start behind Williams. The 2002 NFL rushing champion had a receiving and rushing touchdown in the same game for the first time in his career that includes a couple of lost seasons.

A pair of teams trying to scrap back into the playoff race meet Thursday night when Miami visits Carolina. Both the Panthers and Dolphins started the season 0-3, but both currently sit 4-5 and on the fringe of the postseason picture.
We'll be chatting throughout Thursday night's ballgame, so come in and join us. Action starts around 8:20 PM.

The
Carolina Panthers have seemed to turn the proverbial corner twice this year; the first turn came after wins against Washington and Tampa Bay, only to see the
Panthers exposed as
Jake Delhomme threw three picks in an explicable loss to a horrendous
Bills team.
But as the clock expired on the Cats' 28-19 win over the
Falcons, things seemed much, much different. Not only had the Panthers beaten a division rival, but they had somehow climbed back into the playoff picture in the NFC, and that thought alone didn't seem as impossible as Delhomme going turnover free against Atlanta ... which he'd just done.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) -- Carolina left tackle
Jordan Gross(notes) broke his right ankle in the
Panthers' 28-19 win over Atlanta.
Gross was blocking midway through the second quarter Sunday when a
Falcons player fell into his leg, which bent awkwardly. The medical staff put a brace on his leg and ankle before he was carted to the locker room.
Coach John Fox said after the game that doctors told him Gross' ankle was broken, leaving Carolina without the anchor of its offensive line indefinitely.
Travelle Wharton moved from left guard to Gross' spot and
Mackenzy Bernadeau replaced Wharton.

Carolina Panthers running back DeAngelo Williams will play today against the Atlanta Falcons, and if he continues to play the way he has over the first half of the season, we should all stand in appreciation: He's averaging 5.2 yards a carry despite constantly facing defenses loaded up to stop him while begging the Panthers' pathetic passing game to try to beat them.
We'll be watching Williams, the Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Cincinnati Bengals game, and everything else going on in this NFL Sunday. If you want to be part of it, follow along below or

Every week FanHouse looks at some aspect of NFL line play for the weekly Between The Lines feature.Because of bye weeks, most teams are halfway through their season even as we're getting ready to watch Week 10. The halfway point seems like as good a time as any to roll out complete sacks allowed stats.
These stats were culled by watching each and every sack that has occurred in the NFL this season (with the exception of a couple of minutes of a
Redskins-
Chiefs game that was lost because of a broadcasting problem). In going back and watching every sack, I timed the time from the snap to the initial hit on the quarterback (then rewound it and timed it a couple of more times to confirm the time) and tried to assign blame to the person responsible for giving up the sack.

Zebra Report is FanHouse's analysis of actual NFL rules and how they are to be applied ... because most fans think they could do a better job than the NFL officials, yet definitely could not. Click here for an introduction as to how we do things. This past week of
NFL play was relatively quiet in terms of complaints about the officiating. Note I said "relatively," because there are always a bevy of complaints -- many warranted and many ridiculously unwarranted. We know that. Regardless, we're still here to sift through some of the more intriguing rules-type interpretations, so let's dive in.

It's often said that a team with two quarterbacks really doesn't have any. With that spirit in mind, FanHouse will keep you updated weekly on NFL teams facing potential quarterback controversies.Stubbornness sometimes pays off. The
Carolina Panthers found this out on Sunday.
One week after giving up on the run way too easily in a loss to Buffalo, the
Panthers mercilessly pounded Arizona's run defense into the ground, and their reward was an easy win. Of course, it doesn't mean
Jake Delhomme has magically turned his season around. It just means the Panthers have found a way to hide him, while keeping him on the field. Delhomme is off our magical list for now, but other shaky starters aren't so lucky.

Blame it on the $42.5 million contract extension he signed in the offseason, but whatever the reason,
Jake Delhomme just can't get himself benched.
Delhomme threw three interceptions in Carolina's 20-9 home loss to Buffalo last season, upping his season turnover total to 15 -- which is more than 29
teams through seven weeks of the
NFL season. But with 2-4 Carolina on the verge of becoming a team playing for draft position,
Panthers coach John Fox announced Wednesday that Delhomme would start at Arizona this week.
