One would think that the role of "person required to pull a tarp across the ground when it rains at a Cincinnati Reds ballgame" is pretty simple, right? I mean, the Reds have basked in mediocrity for years, so it's not like they expect a ton from their ground crew. Yet, the poor girl in the following video found out the hard way (being swept under the tarp) that it's not all fun and games at the Great American Ballpark. It's OK to laugh -- she's fine. The fun starts around the 40-second mark.

Tired of the incessant "$5 Footlong" Subway commercials, with their double entendre and stupid, catchy jingle? Maybe you're lucky you don't live in Taiwan, where Hong-Chih Kuo sells NT$69 subs (that's about two dollars in the States) with a 180-km/hr (111-mph) fastball that literally catches on fire and moves the catcher two frictionless feet backwards. In my book, there's only ever been one better Subway commercial.
Hat tips to Diamond Notes and BBTF for giving me an excuse to make a Happy Gilmore reference.

Blue Jays outfielder Alex Rios had some harsh words for a fan who chided him as he left a charity gala dinner Thursday night. The exchange, which referenced Rios' dreadful five-strikeout showing at the plate (platinum sombrero!), was predictably caught on video and posted to YouTube.
On Friday, it was Rios' turn to apologize for the embarrassing incident.

Whether you love him or hate him -- and there's likely no middle ground since he's so polarizing -- you have to admit one thing about Carlos Zambrano: He's entertaining as all get out. Wednesday afternoon at Wrigley Field, Zambrano was ejected after a brief stare-down with the home plate umpire, Mark Carlson. After he was tossed, though, were the true fireworks.
Though slowed by a holiday and an Internet outage, the MLB Weekly Rewind is finally here to take a look at the past week in baseball in video form. It's biased, rambling, and mostly cynical, but ... Hey! Moving pictures! Sweet!
There are many fantastic things about Fox's baseball coverage. Their music, for starters, is second to none, often featuring the dulcet tones of Phish, Widespread Panic and the White Stripes during Saturday games. Another fantastic thing: any excuse to show this picture of Rupert Murdoch. Two things that aren't awesome, however, are Joe Buck and Tim McCarver. Fortunately, when they screw up, it's quite amusing, and when they show the wrong man as John Mayberry, Sr., following his "son's" first career homer Saturday, well, good times ensue.
Many former players get courtesy titles in the organizations they played for, but few of them take those jobs quite as seriously as George Brett, the Vice President of Baseball Operations for the Royals. That's a nebulous title that could mean a lot of time playing golf and shaking hands, but Brett still takes his Royals baseball seriously.
Check out his takedown of those critical of Trey Hillman, and you might wonder if the team should think about giving him a job as team spokesman. The video is after the jump. There's some language unsafe for the workplace, but it all gets bleeped by Kansas City's NBC affiliate.
